Susan Lores, Certified Nurse Midwife
Susan Stacy Lores, CNM grew up in the mountains of West Virginia. She attended West Virginia University School of Nursing in Morgantown, WV where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing in 1976. Upon graduation, she worked as a labor and delivery RN at both West Virginia University Medical Center in Morgantown and Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC.
Susan's dream from the time she was in Nursing School was to become a Nurse-Midwife and she fulfilled that goal by attending Columbia University in New York City 1980-1981. Susan received a full scholarship to Columbia University through the U.S. Public Health Service Corp. While at Columbia, Susan was inducted into the nursing honor society Sigma Theta Tau, and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Masters Degree from Columbia University in December 1981 and became a Certified Nurse-Midwife in December 1981. Susan was commissioned as a Captain in the U.S. Public Health Service Corp in 1982 and retired in 1984.
Susan developed a new Nurse-Midwifery Service in central Pennsylvania from 1982-1984. This community was in a health manpower shortgage area and the midwives were successful in decreasing the infant mortality rate and advancing prenantal care to this three county rural community.
Susan has also been in private practice in Jacksonville, FL from 1984-1991, She was the first CNM to obtain hospital privileges in the city of Jacksonville, Fl.and that opened the doors for many other groups to incorporate Nurse-Midwives in their private practices. In 1991, Susan moved to Dothan, AL to become the Director of a Sunlife Group of 4 CNM's providing care to an indigent population in Southwest Alabama. Due to a company move for Susan's husband Michael, the family moved to Atlanta, GA. in 1997.
Susan was a member of the Kaiser Permanente Group and delivered babies at the main campus of Northside Hospital in Atlanta from 1997-1999.
In 1999, she joined Ob-Gyn practice in Marietta and was part of a team of 6 physicians and 4 Nurse-Midwives. She then made the move to Cumming in October 2008 to join North Pointe Ob-Gyn.
Susan has been married for 29 years to her husband Michael who is career military. They have two children who have graduated college, Michael Jr. with a dual degree in Business and Horticulture and Tarasa with a degree in Athletic Training.
Susan enjoys travel, reading, dance, swimming, and watching old movies. Since her roots are in the Mountains she loves to camp, hike, and participate in any outdoor activities.
Susan is an active member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives.
